Published on June 10, 2025 at 04:26 PM

Four out of the six states of the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria have been plunged into total darkness.

The outage which commenced at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 10, as gathered by DAILY POST, is expected to last until 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 14.

Business activities, at the time of filing this report, have been crippled in the affected areas of Taraba, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

The management of Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, said the outage is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, to carry out critical upgrade works on the Jos-Gombe 330kV and Jos-Bauchi-Gombe 132kV transmission lines.

The project, according to the management. includes the installation of new towers at the Bauchi 330kV station and the crossing of an existing 132kV line.

Key areas presently in total blackout across the aforementioned states are Damaturu, Molai, Yola and Jalingo.

Their respective injection substations, as made known by the YEDC, will be without power during the maintenance period.

“However, TCN and YEDC have arranged alternative supply routes to mitigate the impact in some areas.

“Biu will receive power from the Dadi Kowa Hydro plant, while Maiduguri’s Baga Road substation will be back-fed from the MEPP facility. Nguru, Machina, and surrounding areas will be powered through the 33kV Nguru feeder,”; YEDC said

YEDC emphasized that the transmission line upgrade is a TCN-led initiative and reassured residents that the company is fully supporting the project to enhance regional power reliability.

“Power supply will be restored as soon as TCN confirms the completion of the works,”; the statement read.

The company also expressed its appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding during the planned disruption.
