Thankfully the defender was not seriously hurt in the incident, although he described the sensation as like “falling from a building” in a dream.

To add insult to injury the goal was disallowed following a VAR check.

Jacy was able to continue the match following medical treatment, but later went off with an ankle issue.

Explaining what happened, he said: “I scored the goal and wanted to celebrate with my wife because she’s pregnant.

“But then I remembered it was my first goal at Couto Pereira stadium, and I also wanted to celebrate with the fans, but I hadn’t remembered there was a moat there.”

Jacy disappeared down a chute which leads to the dressing rooms at Estadio Couto Pereira.

Ordinarily the tunnel is covered, but it had been opened by ground staff with half-time looming.

Jacy added: “I twisted my foot there. It’s a bit sore, but I’m fine.

“Centre-backs hardly ever score goals. So when you do score … I just got carried away.”

This was the second time that such an incident has occurred at Coritiba’s stadium.

In 2014, then-Coritiba forward Joel fell down the same tunnel after scoring in a win over Sao Paulo.

After being assisted by ground staff the Cameroonian was okay and able to continue.
