Ironside Road and the Blackstock flats in Sheffield, England, served as the backdrop for the gritty series This is England, created by Shane Meadows.
Currently, a two-bedroom maisonette flat in the tower block has been listed for sale with offers starting at £85,000.
The series commenced with the 2006 coming-of-age drama, followed by TV sequels This is England ’86, This is England ’88, and This is England ’90.
Renowned for its authenticity and remarkable ensemble cast, including Thomas Turgoose as Shaun Fields and Stephen Graham as Andrew ‘Combo’ Gascoigne, the series depicted a group of young skinheads.
The concrete, industrial aesthetic of the buildings was utilized to illustrate the harsh reality faced by many working-class youths in 1980s England.
However, locals now describe the filming location as a desirable place to live, with estate agents even leveraging the popularity of This Is England to promote properties in the block.
Estate agents Belvoir Sheffield characterize the property as a “fantastic opportunity to acquire a spacious home in a convenient and well-connected location.”
The listing highlights: “Offering two generous double bedrooms, a roomy living area, and a balcony with stunning views.”
“Nestled in a sought-after residential area with superb transport links, it is ideally suited for first-time buyers, investors, or those looking to downsize.”
Katie Smith, 45, has resided near the tower block for eight years.
“We watched the film crews working in the area back then and would chuckle at the actors being on our streets while I enjoyed the show on TV,” shared the grandmother of four.
Upon viewing the estate agent’s photos of the interior of the first-floor maisonette, Katie remarked: “It looks beautiful. Absolutely stunning for a flat.”
She added: “That looks really nice, wow! It appears better on the inside than the outside of the flats.”
Ironside Road is located in the Gleadless Valley area of Sheffield, and its stark post-war exteriors were prominently featured in the gritty drama.
“We never experience any trouble here, unlike what is depicted in the TV show. Not a bit of trouble; it’s a lovely area,” Katie stated.
“You do get the occasional troublemaker, but every place has that.
“My daughter lives in one of the other flats on Ironside Road. They are spacious flats, and she loves it.”
