The Federal Government has recognized Borno as Nigeria’s most resilient state, despite the wave of violent attacks.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this statement during his visit to the State’s Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
This visit is part of the events commemorating the gathering of the APC Commissioners of Information Forum.
Borno, located in the North-East region, shares borders with Yobe to the west, Gombe to the southwest, and Adamawa to the south.
It is the only state in Nigeria that shares borders with three countries: Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.
Named after the historic Borno Emirate, this North-Eastern state was established in 1976 and has been facing the repercussions of insurgency since the emergence of Boko Haram in 2002.
The impacts of Boko Haram and other splinter groups have included the killing and displacement of residents, health crises, and the destruction of schools, as well as both government and private properties throughout the state.
Recently, the region has also faced flooding, which has left numerous communities and households in ruins.
However, during his remarks in Maiduguri, Idris emphasized that Borno State has indeed mastered the art of overcoming challenges.
“Borno State is undoubtedly Nigeria’s most resilient state, given the severe challenges it has faced over the past decade,” Idris stated.
He further expressed that the citizens of Borno State deserve recognition from all Nigerians for their resilience and extraordinary capacity to rebound from adversity.
“The people of Borno State embody the strength and perseverance that characterize Nigerians, and it is fitting for all other Nigerians to not only commend the citizens of this state but also to take pride in their ability to surmount challenges,” Idris added.
