Federal roads in Ekiti terrible, Nigerian govt refusing to refund state – Fayemi tackles Tinubu

Former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, has decried the state of federal roads across the state.

Fayemi said residents of the state are unhappy with the condition of federal roads in the state.

He spoke during a meeting with his loyalists in Ekiti, a meeting many saw as him testing political waters to show his acceptability to other promoters of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

The immediate past governor of Ekiti State is believed to be part of key members of the opposition coalition determined to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

However, Fayemi said the Tinubu-led Federal Government has refused to refund the state for money previously spent on the construction of federal roads.

Fayemi said if Tinubu’s administration had refunded the money, the current governor would have used it to further extend the road.

He said: “Except we are deceiving ourselves, the people are not happy with the Federal Government due to hunger and lack of money.

“If you look at all the roads, especially federal roads, if you are coming from Omuo - Ilasha - Ayedun - Oye, you know what your eyes will see.

“When we did the road that BAO just finished, we almost spent 18 to 20 billion on that road but the Federal Government was unconcerned and can’t refund the money spent.

“If the Federal Government had refunded the money spent, the governor would have used it for phase 2 of the road I did from Iyin to Ekiti.

“The governor would have taken the road to Aramoko but the Federal Government said it’s our road so leave it.”
