The Commissioner of Police overseeing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Miller Dantawaye, has mandated the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ushafa.
This information was shared in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, on Thursday in Abuja.
“This decision comes in response to the circulation of a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing the DPO slapping a young man on Wednesday.
“The Commissioner strongly condemned the officer’s behavior, which does not meet the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police personnel,” she stated.
Adeh mentioned that the Commissioner had cautioned that such conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under his administration.
She added that the officer has been reassigned to the FCT Police Command Headquarters while an investigation is currently underway.
“As administrative disciplinary measures are being implemented, the Commissioner has reminded all DPOs and their subordinates that they must uphold professionalism, courtesy, and adherence to the law in their duties.
“The Commissioner has warned that any misconduct or abuse of power will result in severe penalties,” she noted.
She further emphasized that the Commissioner has urged the public to maintain respect and lawfulness in their interactions with police officers, highlighting that mutual respect and cooperation are essential for effective community policing and public safety.
Adeh encouraged residents of the FCT to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the police using the command’s emergency numbers: 08061581938, 08032003913, and 08107314192.
