Human rights attorney Femi Falana has urged the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the death of Comrade Abiodun Aremu, who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Ota, Ogun State.
In a petition dated October 15, 2025, and directed to the Commissioner of Police at Elewe Eran, Abeokuta, Falana referred to Aremu’s death as a tragic and unacceptable loss, calling on the police to ensure that the offender is held accountable.
DAILY POST reports that Comrade Aremu, who served as the Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), a coalition of pro-labor and civil society organizations, was allegedly hit by a speeding vehicle close to his home in Ota on Sunday, October 12.
The petition states that the driver fled the scene immediately following the incident, leaving the victim in critical condition.
The deceased was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital by concerned citizens but was later pronounced dead despite medical efforts to save him.
In his correspondence, Falana urged the police to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the driver responsible for the fatal accident, labeling the act as reckless, negligent, and subject to legal penalties.
“We feel it is necessary to request that you utilize your esteemed office to conduct an investigation into the tragic death of Comrade Aremu with the aim of locating the driver and prosecuting him for speeding, negligence, and manslaughter,” the letter stated.
