THE MYSTERY of Pep Guardiola talking to an empty chair has finally been cleared up.

Fans joked he was chatting to ‘the ghost of ‘ when a viral clip showed the outgoing boss gabbing away – seemingly to nobody – during an semi-final against in 2020.

In the footage, Pep was seen talking urgently to the unoccupied seat on his left.

even poked fun at Guardiola during his farewell party earlier this week, asking: “Pep, everyone wants to know, who are you talking to here?”

Pep offered a chuckle but fans were still none the wiser until released a wide-angle shot on social media.

With the camera zoomed out, it is clear that Guardiola was talking tactics with assistants Rodolfo Borrell and Juanma Lillo, who were each sat a couple of chairs away.

But most fans wish they had never discovered the truth as the original mystery was that much more comical.

One responded to the FA’s clip on X with: “They ruined one of the greatest videos of all time.”

Another added: “I thought I was the only one thinking the same.”

A third said: “Do you tell little kids that Santa isn’t real as well?”

And a fourth wrote: “Just keep a secret please.”

Guardiola’s pitchside chatter did not count for much on the day as Arsenal won 2-0.

And although Pep got the better of former assistant Arteta for most of their time as Premier League rivals, he came off second-best in his farewell season, finishing seven points behind the Gunners in the title race.

Arsenal can put the cherry on top of the campaign and cement their status as top dogs by winning the this Saturday.
