Former National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hajiya Mariya Waziri, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kebbi State.

Waziri was received on Monday by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. She defected alongside the PDP Women Leader in the state and other party executives.

Addressing a large gathering of women supporters, Waziri said her decision to join the APC was driven by what she described as the impressive development projects being executed by the Idris administration across Kebbi State.

“I have been in the PDP for 20 years without joining any other party. My decision to join the APC today reflects my confidence in the level of development I am seeing in Kebbi State,” she said.

She added that after touring different parts of the state, she became convinced that the APC-led government was delivering meaningful progress.

“I have gone round the state and I am impressed with the projects. I will work tirelessly to ensure the victory of Governor Nasir Idris in 2027,” she added.

In his response, Governor Idris described Waziri as a committed and development-oriented leader, noting her longstanding support for women in the state.

He recalled a long-standing family relationship with her and said that during her tenure as PDP National Women Leader, she consistently assisted women in Kebbi State, especially during her visits from Abuja.

The governor assured her of equal treatment within the APC and urged her to mobilise women across the state ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s forthcoming visit to Kebbi State.
