Europe’s top 20 cheapest beach resorts: Little-known town with £1.60 beers and golden sand named most affordable

EVERYONE loves a bargain when it comes to a holiday, and a little-known town in Bulgaria has been revealed as the cheapest.

easyJet has done all the calculations for us and revealed it’s the Cheap Beach Index with the 20 best destinations for an affordable getaway in .

Nessebar in Bulgaria has come up trumps in terms of affordability There are plenty of seafood restaurants along cobbled streets

At the very top of the list with pretty beaches, beers for £1.60 and a stay in a three star hotel that will set you back just £45 per night is , known as the ‘Pearl of the Black Sea.

It’s a town on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast known for its , seaside and its charming cobblestone streets.

Not only is it a great place for relaxing and enjoying the Bulgarian sunshine, but it’s very affordable too.

The average price of an ice cream is £1.20, a family meal is priced around £28, and a three course dinner for two cost just £22.

Getting to Nessebar isn’t hard either as easyJet offers direct flights to Burgas from £32.99 – from , Nessebar is just a 35-minute drive away.

Nessebar is split into the Old Town and the New Town.

The New Town is filled with seafood , shops and trendy bars and .

The Old Town which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, is reachable from the mainland by a narrow causeway.

On the approach is a windmill of Nessebar, it was built in the 19th century and is a symbol of the town’s rich maritime history.

In Old Nessebar are several ancient ruins and monuments like the Church of Saint Stephen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 11th century.

One of the most significant ancient attractions in Nessebar is the Thracian necropolis, which dates back to the 6th century BC, which has 40 tombs.

revealed their favourite restaurant in the old town.

They said: “One of the cheapest, and freshest, places to grab something to eat in the old town is a restaurant called Hemingway.

“I indulged in traditional Bulgarian dishes, such as banitsa (a pastry dish) and kebapcheta (a grilled meat dish), while enjoying stunning views of the sea with a meal costing £6 and a cocktail £4.

“During the months, local street food vendors line the streets giving tourists even more pocket-friendly choices.”

Nessebar South Beach, is known for its golden sand and bright waters, another popular beach is , which is about 30 minutes away from Nessebar by car.

It can still be enjoyed during too, in October, has average daytime temperatures of 18C.

Second on the list for affordability is Budva Riviera in Montenegro

Coming in second place to Nessebar is Budva Riviera in where visitors can get a for £1.90 and for £1.50.

Return flights are £70, a stay at a three-star hotel is £55 and meals for a couple start are on average £30.

The Budva Riviera sits on the Adriatic coast in western Montenegro, centered around the ancient city of .

Visitors can go to the family-friendly Petrovac beach, or take a boat trip to the beaches of Sveti Nikola Island.

Another bargain destination is Costa de Almería in , which is known for the unique Tabernas Desert and its golden beaches. 

Here, beers are £3, an ice cream costs £1.80, and return flight is £60.
