Former Liverpool striker and pundit Stan Collymore has criticized the club’s forward, Mohamed Salah, stating that the Egyptian has ‘deceived himself’ into thinking he holds the same ‘untouchable status’ as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This remark followed Salah's fiery post-match interview after the Reds' 3-3 draw with Leeds United over the weekend.

Currently, Salah is finding himself on the bench under manager Arne Slot.

In the last three matches, the forward has started as a substitute.

He was not brought into play in the last two games, which has significantly frustrated him.

Salah expressed to reporters that the club he has dedicated everything to has let him down.

Collymore contended that despite Salah's remarkable accomplishments at Anfield, he cannot place himself in the same league as Messi and Ronaldo.

“If you were to ask 99.9% of players if they would accept 2 or 3 games on the bench for not performing at their best, all would agree,” he posted on X.

“Only in the madness of modern football in 2025 would the cult of personalities not only challenge a reasonable conclusion of ‘you’re not playing well, here’s a spell on the bench,’ but Mo may have almost convinced himself that he deserves the untouchable status of Messi or Ronaldo, players who, if they wished, could literally do and say as they pleased over the last decade.

“Mo isn’t them, and Liverpool, as I mentioned, isn’t that type of club either.”

It is quite unusual for Mohamed Salah to have scored just five goals in nineteen matches this season.
