Former Manchester United and Newcastle United player, Alan Smith, has excluded Chelsea from this season's title race.
He believes that the competition for the title is primarily between three teams: Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
Smith has identified Arsenal as the frontrunners to secure the title this season, as they have come close in recent years.
After their victories in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, several analysts considered Chelsea as potential ‘dark horses’ for the Premier League title.
However, the Blues have managed to win only three out of their first seven league matches, placing them seventh in the Premier League, five points behind the early leaders, Arsenal.
Prior to the FIFA International break, Chelsea managed to bounce back with a win against the defending champions, Liverpool.
Despite this, Smith maintains his stance regarding Enzo Maresca’s squad, asserting that they are not in contention for the title.
“As impressive as they were against Liverpool recently, I don’t believe Chelsea will be in the mix,” Smith told Metro.
“Manchester City are somewhat unpredictable. We might have assumed they wouldn't pose a challenge this year.
“Yet, I think they could still be in the race and complicate matters for Arsenal and Liverpool. Erling Haaland is performing exceptionally well, and Rodri is returning to form.
“For me, City are still part of the conversation. However, they might be third in line, as I still consider Arsenal the favorites.
“Liverpool were outstanding last season, but they have their issues, particularly defensively. Nonetheless, I believe it’s a three-horse race.”
Chelsea will face Nottingham Forest after the international break and will aim to secure consecutive victories.
