Manchester City star, Phil Foden, on Sunday, broke a record held by Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi after scoring a hat-trick in his side’s Premier League 6-3 win over Manchester United.
A hat-trick each from Foden and Erling Haaland gave Man City all three points against Man United at the Etihad Stadium.
Foden’s second goal just before half-time against Man United took his Man City goal tally to 50, all of which have been scored under manager Pep Guardiola’s tutelage.
The youngest player that reached that total number of goals under Guardiola was Messi.
Foden reached the landmark at the age of 22 years and 127 days, while Messi was 22 years and 164 days old when he scored his 50th goal under Guardiola at Barcelona, 37 days older than the England international.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Foden told Sky Sports, “Obviously, it’s a dream come true playing the derby as a City fan.
“Me and Erling have built that connection now, we’re finding each other. It’s been a pleasure being a part of this team.”
