Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has pinpointed a major problem with the club following their 2-0 defeat to Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.

He said that Michael Carrick and his team must sign a new forward before the end of the summer transfer window on September 1.

Despite controlling 72 percent of possession against the Tigers, Manchester United found it challenging to create scoring opportunities.

Hull City showcased their effectiveness with set pieces, as Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy each netted a goal to secure the three points.

Matheus Cunha was deployed as the striker for the Red Devils, while Benjamin Sesko was placed on the bench after recently recovering from a shin injury.

However, neither player managed to significantly influence the game against Hull City’s well-organized defense.

Hargreaves expressed to TNT Sports, “I believe they could benefit from an additional striker option. This was evident today, as Sesko did not start and Cunha operated a bit deeper. He is more suited as a number 10 and performs effectively from the left side.

“However, with Baleba joining the squad, it is a strong team capable of finishing in the top four. I just feel they were most effective last season when counter-attacking against teams.

“Recall Carrick’s initial matches against City and Arsenal; they excelled in those counter-attacks. today, despite having possession, they appeared unlikely to score.

“I think it will become easier when space opens up, which was not the case today. They need to reassess and consider what adjustments they can make.”

Manchester United have reportedly completed the signing of Carlos Baleba for the midfield position. Additionally, they have been linked with potential acquisitions of Alejandro Balde and Jorge Salinas.
