Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has countered Asamoah Gyan’s suggestion that Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, might not want to join the Red Devils.

Gyan, a former Sunderland and Ghana striker, speaking on the latest episode of Rio Presents, wondered why Manchester United and other top clubs in the Premier League did not make the move to sign Osimhen.

The former Ghana striker, however believes, Manchester United could still make the move but expressed doubts about the Galatasaray striker agreeing a move to Manchester United.

Countering him on the programme, Rio Ferdinand said that Osimhen would definitely sign for Manchester United if they called him.

The Nigerian superstar joined Galatasaray for £65 million this summer after spending a season on loan at the club and has already scored 47 goals in 41 games in total.

Osimhen has been a reliable goal scorer in European football over the last few years. He played a key role in helping Napoli win the Serie A championship.

However, he did not get the chance to play under Antonio Conte and was expected to join Chelsea at one point. Some Saudi Arabian clubs were also interested in signing him.

However, he had to move to Turkey, where Galatasaray signed him on loan last season. Big teams like United, Arsenal, and Chelsea were all interested in signing the striker this summer, but in the end, they decided to look for other options.

It’s a decision that has confused Gyan, who believes Manchester United will still try to sign Osimhen.

“Victor Osimhen really enjoys scoring goals, he plays with a lot of heart, and he gives his all in every game. I’m surprised that the bigger clubs didn’t pick him up during this transfer window,” Gyan said.

“But hopefully, I’m also feeling he’s connected to Manchester United, but only if he wants to come because of their history and everything.”

In response, Ferdinand said, “Osimhen will join United, if United offer to sign him, he will go, 100 percent.”

United, Arsenal and Chelsea all added to their options up front in the summer, signing Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Joao Pedroz respectively.

However, all of them have faced some difficulties this season.

Former United midfielder Paul Scholes thought the Reds should have chosen Osimhen instead of Sesko, and ex-Chelsea player John Obi Mikel hoped to see the Blues sign another player from his home country.
