Arsenal legend, David Seaman has pinpointed forward Bukayo Saka’s penalty miss in the Gunners’ 2-2 Premier League draw against West Ham United last weekend as a crucial moment in the title race.
According to Seaman, if Arsenal doesn’t win the Premier League, the West Ham match will be remembered as a pivotal point.
Recall that Mikel Arteta’s side spurned a 2-0 lead for the second week in a row to draw 2-2 with West Ham on Sunday.
Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli had given Arsenal an early lead.
However, two goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen ensured the Hammers drew against the visitors at the London Stadium.
The result left Arsenal just four points clear of second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
And Seaman feels Saka’s penalty miss in the 52nd minute against West Ham may have consequences for Arsenal’s title hopes.
“Bukayo Saka’s penalty is a deciding moment in the game. If we don’t win the league, that will be remembered as a pivotal point,” Seaman told his podcast. “The first half an hour we were fantastic.”
He added, “You know what, the West Ham result feels worse than the Liverpool one. They were supposed to have learned their lessons from last week. That is what was really annoying.”
