Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has blasted the Blues following their recent 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton.
Recall that Brighton defeated Enzo Maresca’s side at Stamford Bridge, with Trevoh Chalobah sent off.
Before the Brighton game, Chelsea had also suffered a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United last weekend after their goalkeeper Robert Sánchez received a red card.
However, Burley was scathing about Chelsea as he labelled their defeat “absolute nonsense,” insisting that they got carried away celebrating their 2025 Club World Cup triumph.
“They haven’t figured out how to be tough to beat when you’re down to 10 men.l In adversity, you’ve to learn how to grind out results,” Burley said, as quoted by ESPN.
“We saw it at [Manchester United] United last week, the manager had a panic up and made sub after sub. They’ve to learn how to galvanize themselves and try and nick a result.
“This’s a Chelsea side that got carried away with the powder puff Club World Cup. Absolute nonsense.”
