Former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, has expressed shock over Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s decision to substitute captain Martin Odegaard during the Gunners’ 3-2 loss to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arteta decided to replace Odegaard with Mikel Merino in the second half while trailing 2-1.

Following the match at the Emirates Stadium, Hargreaves criticized the substitution, stating his dissatisfaction with the decision made by Arteta.

“I was surprised,” Hargreaves commented on Premier League Productions.

“I love Eze, but Odegaard is the one to pick a pass because Man United were sitting deep.

“Eze isn’t that player; he’s a dribbler, and there was no space in the middle of the pitch.”

Arsenal’s next match is against Kairat in the UEFA Champions League this Wednesday.
