Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim stated that his team demonstrated a better performance in their loss to Arsenal than in their recent wins against Liverpool and Brighton.
Arsenal defeated United 1-0 at Old Trafford in their first match of the 2025–26 season, but Amorim seems to have made significant progress since that game.
The Red Devils have now secured three consecutive victories, overcoming Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, and currently hold the fourth position in the league table.
The Portuguese manager addressed reporters following their win over Brighton on Saturday.
“I believe the best game we played this season was against Arsenal, the very first one,” he remarked.
“[However], it was a more complete performance [against Brighton compared to Liverpool].
“You can say whatever you like about Liverpool, but they didn’t deserve to lose. We earned the win, but they didn’t deserve to be defeated.
“I think today [against Brighton], we showcased a bit of everything. We controlled possession.
“We created opportunities, defended high up the pitch, and dropped back when necessary. I was more pleased with today’s performance than last weekend’s.”
Additionally, Amorim praised his forward Bryan Mbeumo, labeling him a “machine” after the summer signing netted twice in the victory over Brighton.
“He’s a workhorse,” Amorim continued. “He excels in transitions and is improving in the final third.”
