ALAN SHEARER believes that Morgan Rogers is currently in a strong position to secure a starting spot at the World Cup next summer.

The manager faces intense competition for the No.10 shirt.

The superstar has become a pivotal player for the Three Lions under the previous management.

However, the former England captain, 55, believes that Rogers is now the frontrunner for a starting role.

The player showcased his talent on Sunday, netting two remarkable goals to lead his team to victory.

Commenting on Rogers’ impressive performance, Shearer stated to Betfair : “The talent England has in the No.10 position is outstanding.

“Morgan Rogers is phenomenal. He’s on a great run, full of confidence. Everything he attempts seems to come off for him.

“Those two goals were exceptional. We are truly fortunate in those positions when considering our options.

“Rogers currently holds the No.10 position for England. If you recall, Tuchel utilized him.

“If the World Cup were to start tomorrow, he would be in the lineup. We still have six months to wait, and hopefully, he maintains his form.”

“He is an extraordinary talent. The competition is fierce, but if the World Cup began tomorrow, he would start. That’s how impressive he has been.”

Shearer then pondered whether Aston Villa can retain Rogers for the long term.

The Toon legend added: “Villa has been participating in European competitions for the past few seasons.

“Aston Villa is a prestigious club; let’s not forget they won the European Cup. Retaining Rogers will depend on their financial capacity to continue improving.

“He recently signed a new contract within the last four or five months.

“From Villa's perspective, they should aim to build the team around Rogers rather than lose him. (Unai) Emery will likely focus on that in the coming years.”

Rogers, 23, made his debut for the Three Lions last year, but he has quickly become a regular in the squad.

The attacking midfielder has earned 12 caps so far, starting four of England’s last five matches.

Meanwhile, Bellingham's significance to the national team has diminished somewhat, despite being one of the biggest stars in world football.

The Brummie has recorded four goals and three assists in 14 LaLiga appearances this season for Real Madrid.

However, he has only started once for the Three Lions since their 1-0 victory over Andorra in June.

Bellingham missed the international matches in September due to a shoulder injury and was excluded in October despite being fit again.

He returned to the squad last month, making a brief appearance from the bench against Serbia before starting in a non-competitive match in Albania.
