Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gummi, has filed a request at a Chief Magistrate Court in Kaduna State, seeking the issuance of a criminal direct complaint summons against two individuals for alleged conspiracy, attempting to incite public disturbance, and criminal defamation.

The application was submitted to the Chief Magistrate Court located on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna.

The individuals named as defendants are George Udom and Bello Isiaka.

Gummi claims that the defendants posted a statement labeled “Breaking News” on their respective Facebook pages on Tuesday, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., asserting that the family of the Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, would be harmed if military operations against bandits were not ceased.

The complainant stated that the publication was inaccurately attributed to him, as his photograph was allegedly included with the statement, leading to the impression that he authored and disseminated the threat.

He informed the court that following the publication, he received numerous phone calls from members of the public who believed he was responsible for the statement and was attempting to intimidate the minister in the execution of his official duties.

The cleric noted that the alleged publication painted him as a threat to public peace, which contradicts his established reputation as a religious leader who advocates for peace and harmony both within Nigeria and beyond.

Gummi further argued that the publication had the potential to incite public disorder in Kaduna State, especially in Southern Kaduna, and could place him in danger by portraying him as a suspect if any harm were to come to the defence minister’s family.

He asserted that the actions of the defendants constituted an attempt to disturb public order and criminally defamed his character.

The complainant indicated that the alleged acts violated Sections 59, 57, 372, 116, and 117 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017.

The application, dated December 24, 2025, was filed by a team of attorneys led by Suleiman Lere, with the complainant requesting the court to summon the defendants to respond to the allegations.
