The channel also appointed Rob Hatch, who has experience in cycling coverage, along with former women's cricketer Ebony Rainford-Brent.
However, TNT's revamped coverage has not been well received by fans, who have given it harsh reviews on social media.
Previously known as BT Sports, they have covered every Ashes tour since 2017-18.
They faced criticism for their changes in commentary, which included Hatch commentating from the UK rather than from Australia.
Former cricket captain Gower mentioned that the decision to exclude him from this year's broadcast still bothers him.
He criticized Eykyn and Hatch, questioning why TNT chose a “rugby commentator and a cycling commentator” for a cricket series.
Gower told the Telegraph : “I have no issue with people suggesting that I could enhance the production.”
“It’s quite unfortunate that if you’re willing to bid for something as significant as an Ashes series, you would then compromise on the quality of the coverage.”

“I feel a bit miffed that after 30 years of covering cricket, and doing it quite well, we have a rugby commentator and a cycling commentator filling in from London.”
“I would have loved to be part of it. An Ashes series is unique – it’s exhilarating and brings out the best in everyone.”
Fans have delivered a harsh critique of TNT’s Ashes coverage this year, with some calling it “absolutely horrendous.”
Others expressed concerns about Hatch commentating from the UK, but the broadcaster defended this decision.
He told the Independent in November: “I was sitting in this very chair when I won that 35th stage.”
“And I believe that if you listen closely, you probably wouldn’t realize we’re not in the same room.”
“For television commentary, one of the key rules is to speak to the pictures. We will communicate with the visuals, and of course, we have eyes and ears in the stadium as well, so if anything unusual occurs, we’ll be informed.”
When asked about the honor of being selected for the Ashes, he said: “It’s indescribably special. It’s a dream come true.”
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to achieve everything I aimed for in cycling. But this opportunity has truly amazed me. It’s been a defining moment in my career.”
