FORMER Chelsea star Carney Chukwuemeka has switched his international allegiance from England to Austria.
, 22, will now become eligible to play for the country of his birth at this summer’s World Cup finals.

The midfielder was born in Vienna but represented from Under-17 to Under-20 level having grown up in Northampton.
Chukwuemeka’s most recent international call-up came in March 2023 by England’s Under-21s – although he was unable to feature due to injury.
With having officially ratified his switch, the highly-rated star could make his full senior international debut later this month.
Having already qualified for this summer’s World Cup, Austria are set to take on and in friendlies on March 27 and 31 respectively.
Bossed by former caretaker , the Austrians have been drawn in Group J alongside Jordan, Algeria and reigning champions this summer.
Chukwuemeka’s new international team-mates will include the likes of , , and .
The Austria new-boy signed for from in 2022.
He went on to play 32 times for the Blues’ first team before being deemed surplus to requirements last year.

After being limited to minutes in the Conference League and League Cup under , Chukwuemeka joined on loan in February 2025.
He impressed enough in Germany to earn a permanent £24million switch last August.
Chukwuemeka has since made 20 appearances in the , although just six of these have been from the start.
The attacking midfielder has also played eight times in the this term, featuring back on English soil in defeats at and .
In addition to Chukwuemeka, Paul Wanner has also switched international allegiance to Austria.
PSV ace Wanner, who was previously at , played for up to Under-21 level but has now also decided to represent the country of his birth.
