MAX OJOMOH had a dream home debut as England completed an autumn clean sweep.

Bath centre Ojomoh, making only his second Red Rose appearance, scored one long-range try and created two more as Steve Borthwick’s side withstood a Pumas comeback for their 11th straight win.

It was unconvincing at times, even after Manny Feyi-Waboso caught Ojomoh’s perfect cross-field kick to put England 17 points clear.

Argentina, who recovered a 21-point deficit to shock Scotland at Murrayfield, looked on course for a shock repeat as they scored 16 without reply either side of the interval.

But with Henry Pollock and the new “Pom Squad” giving England heft and impetus, Ojomoh – son of former Bath and England flanker Steve – set up Henry Slade for the crucial third try.

It proved just enough, despite a late score from winger Rodrigo Isgro and a nervy extra spell before the Pumas butchered a close-range line-out deep into the red.

But four wins out of four this month at the Allianz Stadium for Maro Itoje’s re-shaped side was all Borthwick could have asked for, even if this was nowhere near the performance that wowed against New Zealand last week.

Despite seven changes from the All Blacks selection, England’s game plan was similar.

Aim for the skies with the boot, chase hard, hit harder.

It worked, too, with half-backs Ben Spencer and George Ford raining bombs on the Pumas.

England’s first sustained attack resulted in Ford, who scored a hat-trick of drop goals in the opening World Cup win over Argentina in 2023, nailing another from distance.

And from the next passage, the aerial route succeeded again to put England ten points clear.

This time it was Spencer hoisting from the base of a ruck, two Argentine defenders made a mess under pressure, and when the ball was flipped into Ojomoh’s hands, the centre raced in from half-way, his tongue out and a smile written all over his face.

Argentina came back but failed to capitalise, prop Thomas Gallo fumbling two yards before being held up over the line and temporary stand-off Santiago Carreras hitting the post with a simple penalty.

And England broke out of their own territory to score a second try.

Once again, the high ball put the Pumas on to the back foot and when Ford switched direction, Ojomoh spotted Feyi-Waboso wide open on the right, giving him a canter over the line.

Fly-half Tomos Albanoz, back from a head injury assessment, pulled three back before England thought they had stretched the lead further from the final play of the half.

A text-book line-out drive ended with Luke Cowan-Dickie seemingly getting the ball down, only for the TMO to rightly advise he had lost it just short of the line.

That decision started to look more important when centre Justo Piccardo crashed over from close range at the start of the second half, Albanoz adding the extras.

The fly-half cut the gap further after Itoje infringed at the tackle, before Borthwick sent on his heavy artillery in the form of Henry Pollock, Tom Curry, Will Stuart and Fin Baxter.

England were struggling to even get into Argentine territory, the penalty count mounting, with Carreras, now back on, slotting his first penalty to make it a one-point game.

But slowly, that extra forward power started to show after Ford kicked to the corner when Argentina were penalised.

Pollock’s clean catch led to a first strike try, Ojomoh popping the ball up for centre partner Slade to fall over the line under the posts.

Ford extended the lead back to 11 after the Argentines came in at the side on the floor.

And that extra security proved enough as England held on despite a yellow card for Alex Coles and that Isgro try, Alex Mitchell booted the ball out to finish it as the teams squared up for a bout of push and shove.
