EMMERDALE star Joe Absolom has completed filming his role on the ITV soap.

The former EastEnders star was introduced by producers earlier this year as the sinister Ray Walters.

He has been central to the soap’s darkest storyline, which involved Ray grooming young April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) into drug dealing and sex work. However, after finding love with the vicar’s widow, Lauren Thomas, there were hopes for Ray's redemption.

Nonetheless, The Sun reports that Londoner Joe, 47, filmed his exit storyline last month, which is expected to air leading up to the soap’s major crossover episode in the New Year.

A source revealed: “Producers were aware they only had Joe for a limited time, but they certainly made the most of having someone of his talent in the village.”

“He filmed his final scenes back in November.”

Joe rose to fame as Matthew Rose in the late 1990s. He was involved in the murder of Saskia Duncan. Since then, he has appeared in a variety of dramas, including A Confession, The Bay, and Doc Martin.

Joe’s character isn’t the only villain in Emmerdale set to exit, as his on-screen adoptive mother is also leaving.

A source stated: “Jaye has genuinely enjoyed her time on Emmerdale, but she understood when she joined that a character like Celia would have a limited lifespan.”

“She must face consequences for her actions, and that’s what is going to happen—one way or another.”

“While Celia’s story might be concluding, her impact and secrets will continue to create chaos long after she’s gone.”

This storyline has been labeled the darkest in soap history due to its disturbing content.

Initially, April Windsor was groomed into drug dealing, quickly being manipulated into performing other tasks for Celia and her adopted son Ray.

She was horrifically sold for sex in a shocking twist before April fought back against one of the paedophile customers, believing she had killed him.

It was later revealed that she hadn’t killed him, but Celia convinced her they disposed of the body to protect her.

When April finally confided in her parents, Celia threatened them and forced them to witness Ray attempting to kill April’s boyfriend, Dylan, who is now in a coma.

Additionally, Celia has been exploiting vulnerable individuals, keeping them confined and forcing them to work for free on her farm.

In another unsettling twist, Bear Wolf was revealed to have been enslaved by them, just a short distance from his family, who believe he ran away to start a new life in Ireland.

Bear was compelled to bury the body of his friend Anya after Ray and Celia denied her medical assistance, allowing her to die.

They wrapped her body in a blanket taken from Moira Dingle and buried her on her land, attempting to frame Moira for the crime.
