Eminem's Ex Kim Faces Challenges: The Impact of a Triple Tragedy and Her Strained Relationship with Daughter Hailie

SHE grew up with a rap superstar as a father and a childhood surrounded by addiction issues, but that won’t be obvious to new followers of family-friendly influencer Hailie Jade.

Hailie, the 30-year-old daughter of superstar rapper and grief-stricken recluse , has managed to distance herself from her “scary” childhood. Now, as Kim faces another legal battle, insiders lift the lid on what Hailie’s relationship with her parents is really like.

Kim has been involved in several controversies in recent years. Earlier this month, the U.S. Sun and failure to stop or identify after causing property damage. She pleaded no contest.

The 51-year-old is alleged to have hit another vehicle and driven away, and will appear in court for sentencing in June.

The mother-of-four, who now sports a short, blonde haircut – similar to Eminem’s trademark tresses – has recently been , father and sister – and in 2022, she tried to take her own life, the day after her mum Kathy Sluck’s funeral.

One of her kids found her “surrounded by blood and pills on her bathroom floor”.

Now insiders have told us that, while she has tried her best for her mother, Hailie doesn’t have a particularly strong bond with Kim.

A source says: “Hailie doesn’t live too far from Kim, and neither do the other kids, but they are not really close at all.

“Kim and Hailie are slightly, but not totally, distanced. They don’t hang out all the time.”

Kim ran away from home at 13, with twin sister Dawn, and later claimed she was sexually abused by her alcoholic stepfather.

She began smoking and drinking at an early age and sunk into addiction.

“Kim’s tragic childhood and all the deaths in the family are what’s done it,” says the source.

“Her children have battled for years to save her.”

Hailie is Kim’s only biological child with Eminem. She also has Stevie Laine, 24, who identifies as non-binary. Stevie’s biological father is late tattoo artist Eric Hartter, but they were adopted by Eminem.

Emimen and Kim also adopted daughter Alaina, 33, whose mother, Dawn Scott, Kim’s sister, died in 2016 following years of drug abuse.

After the couple split for good in 2007, Kim had a son, Parker, who is now a teenager, with a new partner who has never been named publicly.

And while behind-the-scenes, Hailie is doing what she can for her mum, Kim is nowhere to be seen on her daughter’s recent or grid posts or videos.

, boasting a whopping 3.8 million Instagram followers and 2.5 million on TikTok.

She has a 14-month-old son, Elliot, with her business executive husband Evan McClintock, and regularly posts clips about family life with a toddler.

A simple TikTok video of Hailie putting on some liquid lipstick has been watched nearly 40 million times, and one of the top comments on the clip reads: “It’s giving KIM Mathers.”

But Hailie’s viral posts do not feature her mother.

Our source adds: “Hailie is definitely closer to her dad. Her focus is elsewhere now that she has a kid and a husband.

“Kim’s recent troubles aren’t a good look for Hailie’s brand. But Eminem is part of music’s elite.”

In contrast, Hailie has no qualms about featuring her father on her socials.

In November, she shared a short clip of her and son Elliot watching Eminem’s surprise half-time performance at the Day game between the rapper’s beloved and the .

And Hailie’s podcast, Just A Little Shady, is also a nod to her famous father, whose rapper alter-ego is Slim Shady.

She has used the podcast to boost her brand but has also spoken openly on the platform about her parents and her childhood.

Hailie has also told how she was “straight and narrow” during her school years, and she never wanted to be associated with drinking for fear of being in trouble.

She said on her podcast: “I didn’t drink or go to parties; everyone was doing that, but I didn’t. I was so naive to all of it.”

And despite growing up with a superstar father, Hailie didn’t have it easy growing up.

Kim has previously battled addiction and , while Eminem suffered from a prescription drug addiction.

At the height of his habit, the Detroit rapper was taking up to “75 to 80 Valium a night”, and in December 2007 – the same month Hailie turned 12 years old – he nearly died from an accidental methadone overdose.

Speaking about his problems, Eminem told the New York Times in 2009: “I was the worst kind of addict, a functioning addict.

“I was so deep into my addiction at one point that I couldn’t picture myself being able to do anything without some kind of drug.”

Despite their personal issues, Hailie has insisted her parents did “such a good job growing up” and said she “didn’t realise how bad things were”, but, as an adult, she finds it “so scary to think about”.

Eminem has twice been married to Kim, in 1999 and 2006, and he adopted Alaina and Stevie and raised them as his own.

But he hasn’t always made it easy for his ex.

He mocked her in songs and fantasised about murdering her in the 2000 tune Kim.

Kim sued him for defamation and he settled out of court , but he later apologised for the way he treated her in the song Bad Husband, from his 2017 album Revival.

Nowadays, the Lose Yourself star tries to help his ex out.

The source adds: “Eminem feels a responsibility to still watch over Kim, and they have a fairly decent relationship.

“He feels somewhat responsible. But they don’t speak a great deal.

“Kim still gets money from Eminem.”

In 2023, Eminem gave Kim a $615k loan from his company to buy a home in Macomb, an upmarket suburb of Detroit, the gritty ex-industrial city where they both grew up.

At the time, , following her mum’s passing.

She told how her children had been “very supportive”, and that Eminem checks in to make sure she is doing OK.

When asked how often she sees her famous ex, Kim joked: “Not often, but often enough!”

But she doesn’t see a lot of Hailie either.

The source adds: “She spends a lot of time with her teenage son [Parker], and doesn’t go out much apart from to run errands and to the bottle shop.

“She’s been just about getting by and has been for decades. It’s really sad.”
