Former Kaduna state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has ruled out contesting for any political office in the 2027 general elections, declaring that his renewed involvement in politics is aimed at supporting credible leadership rather than personal ambition.

El-Rufai made the declaration in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving a group of youths who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Aliyu Bello.

He criticised the current administration, saying Nigerians do not need further explanation to recognize its failures.

“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai said.

The former governor explained that his initial plan after office was to retire from partisan politics but that recent national realities compelled him to return. He said his priority now is to mentor young people, women, and reform-driven citizens to take active roles in governance.

El-Rufai also urged eligible Nigerians to register to vote, stressing that participation in the electoral process is key to political change.
