Governorship aspirant, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has reiterated the need for unity within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying Ekiti State stands to benefit greatly from a cohesive and focused opposition ready to return to power.
Obafemi stated this onSaturdayin Ado-Ekiti while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 60th birthday celebration of a former Secretary of the party in Ekiti State, Temitope Aluko.
According to him, “the time has come for the PDP in Ekiti to rise above personal interests and focus on the collective mission of restoring hope to our people. Ekiti cannot afford another wasted decade under the APC.”;;
He described the years of APC governance in the state as a “period of stagnation, unmet expectations, and unrealised potential,”;; lamenting that the much-touted federal connection that the party campaigned with has failed to translate into any significant progress for the state.
“The APC has had the platform and the opportunity for nearly eight years, yet the state remains where it was. What happened to the so-called federal backing they promised? The people of Ekiti are no fools, they know when they are being taken for granted,”;; he said.
Taking a swipe at Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Obafemi criticised what he termed “a campaign of undue endorsements”;; rather than delivering results.
“If the APC had anything meaningful left to offer Ekiti, we would have seen it by now. The Governor’s obsession with orchestrated endorsements is proof of desperation, not performance,”;; he added.
Obafemi urged PDP members across the state to close ranks and restore the confidence of Ekiti people in the party by showing unity, maturity, and a commitment to good governance.
“The PDP must be the rallying point for new thinking, bold ideas, and a leadership that actually works for the people. But to do this, we must be united in purpose,”;; he concluded.
