John Chigozie Ekeogu has emerged as the new Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Imo State chapter, as the party held its state, LGA, and ward congresses across the state.

Other executive members who emerged alongside him include Paul Alaba, Secretary; Chidubem Achonwa Amaobichukwu, Organising Secretary; Ngozi Amajuonyi, Woman Leader; Kenneth Nwahiri, Youth Leader; Tobias Okoronkwo, Legal Adviser; among others.

Speaking after the congress, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Amobi Achonwa, said the exercise was in line with the SDP constitution to maintain party cohesion.

He added that the exercise was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, with those elected emerging democratically.

“Prior to the elections, delegates and aspirants were painstakingly accredited and screened, with an INEC official present to witness the congress.

“The party adopted a consensus arrangement unanimously agreed upon by members,” he said.

In his speech, the newly elected chairman, Ekeogu, assured party members that he would work in cooperation with other executive members to ensure the SDP achieves political victory in the 2027 elections.

He commended the party for conducting a credible exercise, saying the SDP is poised for victory, while urging members to remain faithful to the party and shun anti-party activities.
