Edo: PDP reelects Aziegbemi as chairman, three ex-commissioners, others

The Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has re-elected Dr Tony Aziegbemi as its chairman for the second term.

DAILY POST reports that Aziegbemi, was first elected the state chairman of the party on March 15, 2020.

He was also on February 6, 2025 appointed as caretaker committee chairman of the party in the state by the National Working Committee of the party for a period of 90 days.

He was re-elected for the second term on Saturday during the party’s state congress.

Also elected as Secretary, is Henry Duke Tenebe, the elder brother to the Edo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC

Tenebe is the immediate past caretaker committee secretary of the party.

Three former Commissioners during the administration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki were also elected into various positions.

The commissioners are Victor Enoghoma, Deputy State Chairman, who served during Oshiomhole’s administration while Monday Osaigbovo, Vice Chairman, Edo South and Ogbeide Ifaluyu-Isibor, Organizing Secretary served under Godwin Obaseki.

Others are Evangelist Adekunle Oboh, Vice Chairman, Edo Central, Bar. Richard Anetekhia – Vice Chairman, Edo North.

Dan Osa-Ogbegie, Publicity Secretary and John Adodo, Financial Secretary, Benedicta Attoh, the suspended Estsako East Local Government chairman by the Edo State House of Assembly emerged as Woman Leader.

The party also elected Paul Itua, Legal Adviser, Liberty Ogboh, Treasurer, Austin Edosowan, Youth Leader and Barr. Obas Stephen as Auditor.

In his acceptance speech, Aziegbemi said the election was a historic transition and consolidation of leadership as new executive members were duly elected and sworn into office.

Aziegbemi added that the event was conducted in an atmosphere of unity, dignity, and commitment to service.

He opined that the success of the Congress marked a new chapter in the party’s journey to strengthen democracy and reposition Edo for responsible governance.

“You have just witnessed the rebirth of the PDP in Edo State. More than 900 delegates voted peacefully, orderly, and with so much maturity.

“I cannot thank them enough. This congress has shown that PDP is ready to reinvent itself and reclaim its place.

“Each of these officers and others not listed, bring tested experience, party loyalty, and an unflinching commitment to serve the people of Edo State.

“Together, they will drive the agenda of the PDP as the true custodian of democratic values and as the voice of the people.

“The outcome reflected the delegates’ confidence in the party’s leadership.

“We will work day and night to deliver Sapele Road and Sadaebe Avenue back into the hands of the PDP.

“Edo people are yearning for good governance, and we will not disappoint them,” he said.

He promised that the new leadership would not take the endorsement for granted.

The congress was attended by 917 delegates from the state’s 18 local government areas while it was supervised by a panel from the PDP national headquarters led by Mr Tariga Tulagha, who was Chairman of the Electoral Committee.
