Dylan Browne McMonagle’s Injury Update: Jockey Expected to be Out for Weeks After Shocking Fall

AN update has been issued on the condition of star jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle after he was rushed to hospital following a sickening fall at Bellewstown on Tuesday.

Champion jockey McMonagle, who has been in sensational form this season as No1 rider for Joseph O’Brien, suffered a crunching spill from Mosel in the first race.

He was reported to be conscious when being rushed from the track to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

However, initial assessments indicate the 23-year-old is expected to be ‘out for a number of weeks’ – which could see him miss some massive rides.

Included among those would be O’Brien’s Enceladus, the Royal Ascot winner who is 5-2 second-fav for the season’s final Classic, the St Leger, at Doncaster on September 12.

Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board chief medical officer Jennifer Pugh posted on X on Tuesday: “Following his fall in the first race at Bellewstown, Dylan Browne McMonagle was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

“Dylan was conscious when leaving the racecourse and is recovering well in hospital this evening. He is very appreciative of the goodwill messages he has received since this afternoon.

“Dylan will be kept in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital overnight for further assessment and observation and will be out for a number of weeks but will make a full recovery.”
