A SHOCKING video shows the moment a callous thug grabbed a cat by the tail and launched it 20ft through the air before it hit a shed roof.

Violent Callum Palmer, 19, had been boozing in a friend’s back garden when he was filmed swinging the cat from a balcony.

The black and white moggy called Apollo is seen spinning several times as it flies through the air.

It is then heard landing with a thud on a shed roof, which had sharp sticking out.

Luckily, the cat landed on its feet and was seen walking back across the fence.

But a veterinary expert said the feline would have suffered severe pain, as well as extreme fear and anxiety.

The video was posted on by one of Palmer’s friends.

It was then reported to the RSPCA and Palmer was later identified and arrested.

In the clip, Palmer says he “loves cats” and leans down to stroke it.

Apollo, who often visited the garden, was seen lying on its back welcoming the attention.

But Palmer is then seen lifting it from the floor by its tail and flinging it in the 11 second footage.

Bristol Magistrates Court heard a group told Palmer to kick the cat but he threw it instead.

He said he had been drunk and egged on by friends.

RSPCA solicitor Lindi Meyer, who represented the animal welfare in court, said the cat would have suffered intense and severe pain.

The charity’s Inspector Kim Walters tracked down the cat to a street in Kingswood.

The owner had been unaware of what had happened to their pet.

In her report to the court, she said: “The perpetrator had a callous disregard for the cat’s wellbeing.

“The incident appears to have occurred purely for entertainment.

“Having inflicted violent trauma upon the cat I have seen no evidence to suggest that the perpetrator did anything to assist the cat, despite knowing that it was likely to be injured.”

Palmer, of Fishponds, Bristol, admitted an animal welfare offence on June 18 of last year, following an and prosecution by the RSPCA.

Defending, Micia Rigby of Reeds Solicitors said Palmer was remorseful.

He has not drunk spirits since the offence and no longer hangs around with the same group of friends, she said.

Palmer said he has since said sorry to nearby residents and would like to apologise to the cat’s owner.

He was given a 12-month community order, with 60 days of abstinence.

A tag will be fitted to monitor his drinking during that time.

Palmer was also ordered to carry out five Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days, pay £500 costs and a surcharge of £114, which will be taken out of his .
