A 22-YEAR-OLD driver has been charged with murder after a “much-loved” man was killed in a horror hit-and-run.

Emergency services scrambled to Accrington, on Wednesday evening after receiving reports that a man had been struck by a car.

Matthew Weller, 44, died in hospital after he was struck by a VW Passat the horror collision, Lancashire Police said.

The car, which did not stop at the scene, was later found abandoned and taken away to be examined, said cops.

Now, Muhammad Haarith, of Accrington, has been charged with Matthew’s murder.

Haarith appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, and was remanded into custody.

Paying tribute, Matthew’s family said: “Matt was a much-loved son, brother, and uncle.

“He was a music lover and left an impression on those that knew him.

“Rest peacefully Matt, you will be missed.”

Three boys aged 17, and a man aged 18, were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder.

The four have all been released on bail pending further enquiries, police said.

Lancashire Police preivously said it was keen to hear from anyone who saw the VW Passat following the incident.

Those who have any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage from the area around Barden Road and Lynton Road were also urged to get in contact.

Cops added: “We are appealing directly to anyone with information to do the right thing and get in touch on 101 quoting log 1508 of 22nd April.”
