Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Iyiola Omisore, has referred to their disqualification from the Osun APC primary election as a joke and an embarrassment.

Omisore made this comment on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST.

The former lawmaker stated that there is a limit to what a party can do regarding candidate disqualification, emphasizing that the Electoral Act stipulates that the nomination of a candidate is not solely the prerogative of any party.

According to DAILY POST, the APC Screening Committee had disqualified Omisore and six other aspirants from participating in the December 13 governorship primary due to alleged irregularities in their nomination documents.

Those excluded from the race alongside him include Babatunde Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare.

In response, Omisore remarked, “In Osun State, we lost the election in 2022. Following the loss, we conducted a post-mortem analysis led by the former Minister of Health, Isaac Adewale.

“The report indicated that the then-governor Gboyega Oyetola was a factor in our electoral defeat. It also highlighted that three or four of his cabinet members contributed to this loss.

“Thus, it became a significant issue for the state. That’s why we believe we should conduct thorough primaries. Unfortunately, former governor Oyetola is now backing one of those responsible for the election losses.

“The entire state leadership opposes his stance, as he has started imposing a candidate on the state. I want to clarify that I do not wish to involve President Bola Tinubu in this matter.

“The President is a national leader who has performed well for everyone and has been fair to all parties involved.

“In light of this confusion, we aim to win the 2026 election, ensuring we do not repeat the same mistakes that led to our loss in 2022.”
