A MURDERER has been killed by lethal injection in the first execution since Christa Pike cheated death.
Jamaal Howard, 46, was given the same deadly drugs despite his lawyers making after witnessing what had happened to Pike just days earlier.
Howard’s death was confirmed just after 8pm in Texas on Wednesday.
He received a fatal dose of pentobarbital at the state prison in Huntsville.
Pike, 50, managed to survive two doses of the same drug on September, 30, in Tennessee as she was rushed to hospital after a botched execution.
The convicted killer is now said to be awake but “angry and confused” over the lethal injection failure as her lawyers have vowed to fight to stop her from being executed again.
Howard’s own lawyers had argued that he faced the same risks as Pike and could suffer if the drugs didn’t work.
Howard was convicted and sentenced to death in 2000 for the murder of a convenience store clerk during a robbery.
He was just 20 when he shot Vickie Swartout, 42, in Texas and stole a carton of cigarettes and $114 from the cash register.
