NIELS ZONNEVELD came agonisingly close to sealing victory over Sebastian Bialecki with a nine-darter in the deciding leg – only to sensationally LOSE the showdown.

The Dutchman, 27, was gunning for glory in the seventh event of the season.

And Zonneveld, who notched a earlier this month, put himself in a glorious position to end the contest in style.

Triple Z was on for a momorable nine-darter after scoring 180 on each of his first two visits in the deciding leg.

But he then missed the double 12 to hand what should have been only a glimmer of hope.

The Polish star, 22, still needed 265 when Zonneveld made what proved to be a costly error.

He then went on to miss SEVEN match , allowing Bialecki to return to the oche with a checkout of 70 needed.

And Zonneveld was stunned when his rival snatched victory by landing 18, 20 and double 16.

It allowed Bialecki to claim an unlikely 6-5 win in Leicester – and fans could not believe what they had just seen.

One social media user wrote: “That’s a sickener.”

Another added: “Bottled it. Seven match and still couldn’t close the deal. That’s a howler.”

A third chimed in: “That’s why you never give up in a leg. Anyone can miss multiple match darts.”
