A police officer who transmitted confidential information to his partner while exchanging over 40,000 personal messages has been sentenced to prison.
Daniel Humphreys, 38, sent her an image of a stabbing victim along with information about various criminals.
Many of the messages were reported to be sexist, homophobic, and racist.
The Southwark Crown Court heard that he was “blinded by love” and sought to impress the unnamed woman, who was a victim of domestic abuse and had aspirations of becoming a special constable.
Humphreys compared the information he shared to a dentist providing X-rays.
The couple met when he arrested her boyfriend on suspicion of assault on July 4, 2019.
The case against the boyfriend was dropped, but PC Humphreys subsequently contacted the woman, and they “initiated a sexual relationship.”
He acknowledged that they exchanged tens of thousands of messages but insisted that he “had no professional involvement” with her after July 4.
Humphreys left the Metropolitan Police in 2023 after serving 13 years.
He was found guilty of misconduct in public office for sharing confidential information until November 2021 and was sentenced to one year in prison.
