Wardley, 31, had walked to the ring first as the challenger, desperate to avenge his devastating defeat five months earlier.

But his hopes of revenge were quickly shattered as Dubois came flying out of the blocks and sent him crashing to the canvas in a disastrous opening round.

The defending champion was all over Wardley from the opening bell, unleashing a relentless assault that left referee Steve Gray keeping a close eye on the action.

Wardley showed incredible bravery to survive the opening three minutes, with Dubois coming agonisingly close to finishing the contest before the bell.

But the Ipswich heavyweight was arguably too brave for his own good as he continued to absorb punishment from the heavy-handed champion.

And the writing was on the wall in the second round as Wardley’s corner threw in the towel to spare their fighter any further punishment.
