DAILY POST correspondent in Ogun State, Gift Oba, along with Kazeem Olowe from Television Continental (TVC), has been honored as the best print/online/broadcast journalist of the year 2025.
The award was presented to them on Friday during the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council’s award and dinner night, themed "Asale Asa: Journaliganza," as part of the activities celebrating the union’s 2025 annual press week.
Oba received the award for her impactful reports, including "Overcrowded, overlooked: Inside Ogun Correctional Centre crisis" and "How house agents exploit 'house hunters' in Ogun," among others.
During the event, which featured a fashion show showcasing traditional attires styled by Egbaliganza, NUJ Chairman Akinwale Olarenwaju remarked that the awards reflect the exceptional skills and commitment to quality journalism.
Olarenwaju expressed gratitude for the support from the state government, distinguished guests present, and council members for their encouragement, assuring that the council under his leadership will continue to thrive.
The event was graced by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Chief Lai Labode, promoter of the Egbaliganza, Senator Lekan Mustapha, and several other prominent figures.
Other distinguished journalists recognized at the event included Doyin Lasisi from the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC); Yemi Dalemo from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA); Ayo Oluwunmi from Ogun State Television (OGTV); Femi Osipitan from the Ogun State Ministry of Information; Sanni Ismail from Kaftan TV; and Idris Oderinde from News Life Online.
