AN ALLEGED crossbow shooter reportedly mocked his victim and accused him of “crying like a baby” as he lay injured.

Horrified witnesses claim the attacker taunted the security guard and said “let’s see the blood” after yesterday.

Emergency crews were scrambled to Manor Park Student Village, on the university’s Guilford campus, at around 10am.

Shocking footage shows the alleged attacker, a former student, 21, from Saudi Arabia, being held down by officers.

A heroic student was also seen helping the victim, in his 50s, by stopping his bleeding before he was rushed to hospital with “serious injuries”.

Witnesses have since described hearing sick taunts made by the alleged attacker in the wake of the shooting.

Oliver Simon, 24, who helped restrain the alleged attacker, said he heard him mock his victim by accusing him of “crying like a baby”.

He told The Telegraph : “He wasn’t shouting. He was mocking the guy he shot and was falsely claiming he was ‘crying like a baby’.

“I think he said he was happy he had shot him. When a student nurse came over to help in her dressing gown, he said, ‘I want to see the blood.’

“He was kicking a lot and I was holding him. I was worried he would try to reach for the crossbow again.”

A black crossbow could be seen under a nearby bench, as well as a black box – said to have contained the weapon – on the seat.

First year student Aaron Essak also told the outlet the alleged shooter repeatedly said “let’s see the blood” as his victim lay injured on the floor.

Second year economics student Aaron, who lives in the block door to the attack, told the Sun how he helped the injured staffer.

He said: “I fixated on what was being said and I could hear ‘help’ and grunting, so I ran outside and saw the security on the floor.

“I saw the crossbow and realised the situation and I saw the security guard was in distress so I put my hand on the wound.

“I managed to get a bandage and had my hand on the wound while someone called an ambulance. I was just telling him to breathe.

“It’s not something you would expect to wake up to on uni campus.”

Yesterday afternoon, Surrey confirmed a 21-year-old Saudi national had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Video footage later showed an officer walking a man through the student accommodation buildings.

The cuffed man was seen wearing all-black with a hood covering his head.

Terrified students described locking themselves in their rooms during the horror.

One said: “I had no idea what was going on, it was really frightening.”

A friend of a student who witnessed the attack said: “We think it was an ex student who was staying over in his girlfriend’s room.

“When a security guard walked over to speak to him, he shot three times with a crossbow.

“The first shot and third shot hit and the second one missed.

“The security guard fell to the ground and called out to two students who were passing and they managed to restrain the guy.”

A huge emergency presence remained in place at the university following the incident.

Surrey Police Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: “I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities.

“I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

“We are working closely with the university as our progresses.

“The suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident.

“An investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the assault.

“The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital and his next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers.”

A University of Surrey spokesperson said: “At approximately 9.50 am , an incident took place on our Manor Park campus.

“Police attended and a man was arrested. A member of our campus safety team was seriously injured and is receiving medical care.

“The police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“Surrey Police are leading the investigation and we are giving them our full support.”
