FANS of ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be surprised to hear that neither show will be airing tonight.

But regular viewers of the programmes shouldn’t be too disappointed, as they don’t have too long to wait for the next episodes to be back on the box.

Are Coronation Street and Emmerdale on tonight?

Both and won’t be on TV in their usual slots tonight due to the first of many soap scheduling shake-ups this summer.

The shows are having the release of their latest episodes delayed to allow passage for England’s qualifier.

Coverage of the Lionesses huge game against Spain gets underway at 7:30pm ahead of the 8pm kick off – directly clashing with the usual airing times of the soap operas.

This will start an unfortunate trend for fans of both programmes, with no episodes of the soaps expected to premiere on Tuesday, June 9.

And the new instalments on the following day (Wednesday, June 10) are expected to be moved forward an hour to 7pm and 7:30pm respectively.

Thursday, June 11 will see a similar scenario, as both shows yet again won’t air, with each getting an hour-long special on Friday, June 12 with Emmerdale starting at 8pm, followed by Corrie at 9pm.

When are Coronation Street and Emmerdale returning?

Fans of the soaps won’t have to wait too long for tonight’s episodes, as they will now air on Sunday at 8pm and 8.30pm.

As previously mentioned, this is just the beginning of a , as both programmes will be heavily impacted by the .

A source said: “It’s proving quite the headache behind the scenes.

“Soap fans have already had to get used to the new slots, which came in at the beginning of the year, so with more changes coming there’s a real fear they could lose more viewers.

“Airing the episodes on a Sunday just does not work and now with the new schedule it’s very unlikely they’ll be able to run before these big World Cup matches start.

“There are lots of discussions behind the scenes about what they can do.”
