Last week, viewers saw after the dramatic Corriedale crossover episode.
A Coronation Street character is not returning to the Cobbles
Dr Vincent Harper made his debut last week and a number of clues made fan think he would become a recurring character
The surgeon seemed to know Billy was gay, even though it wasn’t in the newspaper article, making fans think there was a link between them
Shona had to have a specialist surgeon carry out the delivery, and at the start of the episode, Corrie viewers were introduced to a man who turned out to be the man of the hour.
After being woken up by a call to get to Weatherfield as soon as possible, the man then headed to Roy’s Rolls before clashing with David in the hospital car park over a space.
He was then revealed to be Dr Vincent Harper, leading to an awkward interaction with David on the ward.
Dr Harper was in other scenes without key cast members, and viewers felt it was paving the way for him to be a recurring face on the Cobbles.
But now Sharon Marshall – ‘s soap queen – has revealed Vincent won’t be back after all.
Taking to X, she wrote: “As we just said on air, sorry to break it but Dr Harper’s not a returning character in Corrie.
“Have lost count of the number of hopeful people asking.. he made quite the splash! X.”
This is despite the fact the episode opened with him, viewers found out it was his birthday and the fact David and Shona named their baby after him.
But the biggest reason viewers thought they would see him again was his interactions with Bernie in the cafe over Billy Mayhew, the vicar who was killed in the Corriedale crash and explosion.
Dr Harper seemed to know more about Billy than would be expected for a stranger not from Weatherfield, so fans are puzzled how all these things weren’t leading to anything after all.
Replying to Sharon, one wrote: “I’m so confused whyyy did we find out so much about him and his kids birthday cake it really stood out to me as strange.”
Another added: “I’m curious as to why it was hinted that he knew Billy?”
A third tweeted: “Why the comment about Billy then, or visit to the Cafe?.. why the parking wars part? The telephone call to his family.. so many questions.. Makes absolutely no sense!”
A fellow viewer agreed, writing: “Makes no sense at all…why the comment about Billy?? Why go to the cafe?”
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
