THE commander of Britain’s Space Force has been suspended amid allegations of a “serious sexual offence” and theft, The Sun can reveal.
Air Vice-Marshal Jamie Thompson was arrested at the in London weeks after taking the helm at UK Space Command.
He is accused of attacking an employee and stealing from the MoD.
The ex-Special Forces officer was in charge of defending UK satellites, conducting missions in space and detecting space-based missile attacks.
He had been due to host the inaugural Space Power Conference in London this week alongside the Defence Secretary and Chief of Air Staff Harv Smyth.
But Thompson was suspended last month from his post — based at HQ in High Wycombe, — as from the Defence Serious Crime Command launched investigations.
The unit is responsible for the most “serious and complex” cases in the UK military and sits outside normal chains of command.
It said: “We can confirm that a member of the RAF was arrested in connection to reports of theft and a serious sexual offence involving an adult.”
It added: “The theft investigation has concluded and has been referred to the Service Prosecuting Authority for a charging decision.
“The investigation into the alleged serious sexual offence remains ongoing.”
Thompson enlisted in the RAF in 1997 and served with a bomb disposal unit before being commissioned as an officer in 2003.
A biography published last year revealed he had worked at “MoD A Block”, which is code for the Special Forces’ headquarters.
In 2024 he was appointed deputy commander of UK Space Command before taking over in June.
An RAF spokesman said: “Air Vice-Marshal James Thompson was suspended without prejudice as part of investigation.
“Air Commodore Darren Whiteley is the interim Commander of UK Space Command.”
It comes amid warnings future wars will likely start in space.
