CLASHES have broken out and bottles have been hurled between Newcastle and Sunderland fans ahead of today’s Tyne-Wear derby.

Cops have been spotted stepping in to break up fights as the rival teams meet at St James’ Park for the first time since 2016.

Pictures taken ahead of today’s 12pm kick off appear to show officers intervening and dragging supporters away.

One supporter was even spotted receiving CPR in scary scenes ahead of the derby.

A large group of visiting supporters were held near the train station by police before being marched through the city towards St. James’ Park.

However, the unsettling scene occurred right on the corner of Strawberry Place, outside a nearby Tesco Express store.

It is unclear what caused the incident, but one male fan was seen receiving CPR by medics.

The male appeared to be bleeding from his head with smashed glass all over the road around him.

An ambulance was seen moving through the crowd to get to the scene.
