Cholera outbreak: Bauchi govt set up committee to tackle rising cases, deaths

The Bauchi State Government has set up a Cholera steering and technical committee to coordinate emergency response and find long-term solutions to recent Cholera outbreak that has claimed several lives in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee in Bauchi, Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau described cholera as a serious public health threat that needs urgent attention.

He said the committee will help improve surveillance, detect cases early, and respond quickly to save lives. “Cholera outbreaks can be prevented if we act on time, work together, and improve water, sanitation, and hygiene,” Jatau emphasized.

He added that members were chosen because of their expertise and urged them to handle the task with dedication. He also assured health partners that the administration will give full support to the committee to ensure success.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Dambam, who is the chairman of the technical committee, reiterated that members will work together to achieve their collective mandate.
