UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea’s Pedro Neto following an incident during the Champions League Round of 16 first leg between Paris Saint-Germain and the Blues in mid-week.

With PSG leading 4-2, Neto tried to restart play quickly with a throw-in and pushed a ball boy who, in his view, was not returning the ball fast enough.

The Portugal winger immediately apologized for the gesture, and the referee did not issue a card during the match.

Despite the absence of an on-field sanction, UEFA has now decided to review the incident afterward.

In an official statement, the European football governing body confirmed: “Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Chelsea player Pedro Lomba Neto for unsportsmanlike conduct.”

Meanwhile, the decision could have major consequences, as Neto now risks suspension and could miss the return leg at Stamford Bridge next week.
