Chelsea Player Ratings: Lavia Shines Post-Injury, Estevao Delivers, While Fofana Faces Uncertain Future

Teddy Sharman-Lowe – 5

Played the full 90 minutes with Robert Sanchez missing due to injury. Little he could have done about either goal but never looked too confident.

Marco Palestra – 7

An encouraging, energetic performance from the Italian. Had a lot to deal with in a confident Mathys Tel at times but battled well.

Wesley Fofana – 5

Given there are question marks over his future at the club, and the club have just signed a new defender in Maxence Lacroix, this was hardly a standout showing from the £70million defender.

Levi Colwill – 6

Looked to get forward where he could and did not do much wrong at the back, drawn into a couple of flash points when the rivalry shone through.

Jorell Hato – 5

This is a big season for the Dutchman after Marc Cucurella’s exit, but he was limited going forwards here and wasteful on the ball, giving it away deep in Chelsea’s half at one point.

Romeo Lavia – 7

Named to start after a hamstring scare saw him miss Tuesday’s friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers. Looked in good shape over 45 minutes, including some fantastic strength and footwork in the build-up to Estevao’s goal.

Dario Essugo – 5

At fault for Sandro Tonali’s opening goal, losing the ball in his own half, and struggled to make his mark on the ball.

Estevao Willian – 7

A very well timed run for his goal and showed lots of energy and endeavour, denied a second by a fantastic save.

Cole Palmer – 6

A quiet game from the Blues star, who came close to scoring a fine free-kick after Kevin Danso was sent off. Saw a shot blocked but struggled to create too much else.

Jamie Gittens – 6

An encouraging week for the Englishman. A strong showing off the bench on Tuesday night was followed by an assist here. Not too much more followed, however.

Joao Pedro – 6

Linked well with those going forwards but could not replicate his nine-minute treble off the bench from earlier in the week.

SUBSTITUTES

Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli – 6

Another big night for the Sydney-born midfielder who has caught the eye of plenty at the club. Didn’t look out of place for such a young player.

Aaron Anselmino – 6

Perhaps the biggest success was that he has now played two games without injury. Looked comfortable after coming on shortly after the break.

Datsan Satpayev – 6

Could not match the high of an opening goal from Tuesday night, but worked hard to create chances for himself as Spurs sat deep.
