Producers and celebs were all left baffled, as the strict rules about calls home were made clear before anyone signed up for the show.

A source said: “The celeb kept causing a massive headache for bosses.

“They couldn’t understand why they couldn’t just call home — despite this being clearly explained to them at the start of the process.

“They kicked off and, in a rant, compared the team on the show to being ‘like human traffickers’.”

The Sun can confirm that while calls are allowed, it’s at the discretion of production, at select times, on a producer’s phone, and a producer must be present.

A show insider added: “It’s to protect the integrity of the game.”

The revelation comes a week after revealed she used code during her calls to get messages to her team while appearing on US.

Maura said: “You get one call a week — I called my manager.

“She wanted to know if I was a traitor or a faithful, and obviously the producers are in the room listening to your phone calls, so I knew I wasn’t going to be able to tell her.

“But I had a secret way of telling her. I told her if I mention a series on , then it means I’m a traitor.

“If I don’t mention it, it means I am faithful.”

Due to the nature of the game, bosses have a dedicated welfare team on hand to support the stars during filming.

Around-the-clock support was available during the three-week filming period, with the team offering psychological support to manage the intense pressures of the game.

Last year it was revealed the to help celebs during their time in the Scottish castle.
