Residents of a retirement flat have been cautioned against smoking cannabis.

They received a management letter stating that all communal areas are designated as smoke-free.

Residents were informed that action would be taken if any violations were discovered within the building.

Homemanor House in Watford is home to 90 residents, all of whom are over the age of 60.

Ian Fleming, a 67-year-old artist living there, remarked: “This is the most amusing thing I’ve read.

“It’s a retirement block, for goodness' sake.

“Many of us are vulnerable and frail.

“There were some rumors previously about people claiming they could ‘smell’ cannabis, but I never did.”

The letter also emphasized that smoking devices are prohibited in communal areas.

The management company, Kingsdale, stated: “The smoking of any illegal substances would be treated as a serious matter.”

Recent statistics indicate a record number of substance use referrals.

Approximately 8,218 individuals were directed to rehabilitation programs, including 1,600 addicted to opiates.

Additionally, 459 individuals required treatment for addiction and 59 for crack .
