The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has clarified the reason for President Bola Tinubu’s absence from Abia State on Friday, stating that it was due to the funeral of Nana Lydia Yildawa, the mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yildawa.

Some members of opposition parties in Abia took to social media on Friday to celebrate after learning that the President had sent a representative to attend the scheduled state visit to Abia.

The President was expected to inaugurate several projects carried out by Governor Alex Otti.

Umahi, who represented Tinubu, provided the official rationale for the President’s absence.

“The President has asked me to inform you that he will be with you later this year, specifically in December.

“He would have attended himself, but unfortunately, our National Chairman lost his mother, and she is being laid to rest tomorrow (Saturday), so it is appropriate for the President to be there.

“That is why he requested me to represent him.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Umahi, Tinubu commended Governor Otti for the completed projects, stating that he is revitalizing Abia State.

The projects include Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, Ajiwe Street, Ndoki Road by East, Peoples Road, Gabriel Nwosu Road, Nkoro Road, Umuatako Road, and Michael Okpara Auditorium.
